Over a decade ago I asked this question of a colleague – who do you want to be?
We had an incredible leadership development programme in the business at the time, and one of the key questions was this – who do you want to be? Or – who are you being?
I didn’t understand the true significance of it back then.
Indeed, when my colleague was complaining about the leadership meeting she was about to go into I was actually joking, tongue-in-cheek, when I asked her – “But who do you want to be in this meeting?”
It actually stopped her in her tracks. And she said – with full sincerity – you’re right. Thank you. I needed to hear that.
I was blown away by the impact that question could have. Indeed by the impact I could have by asking it!
When you’re asked to stop and remember who you want to be, it connects you directly to who you really are.
Sometimes all you need is that question – to remind you of this, so that you get to step into that identity.
But sometimes the ‘stepping in’ part feels impossible. You logically know who you want to be but you can’t do it. It feels forced or fake. Like sticking a smiley-face sticker over a big pile of poop.
So if right now it feels like:
- You know who you want to be but you simply can’t make it happen.
- Trying to be a better version of you feels exactly like that – trying: an effort, forced and fake.
- There’s not enough smiley-stickers in the world to keep your unworthy, imposter doubts under wraps.
It makes perfect sense.
Why?
Because there’s a negative identity that’s stopping you. Period.
And how do you solve that?
You UNknowingly created negative identities, so you can’t knowingly un-do them.
It requires a process that gets you out of knowing: thinking, intellectual, logic.
Because let’s face it – you know intellectually and logically who you want to be – you just can’t make it a lived reality…yet!
That why you need a solution that solves the root cause because THAT is what’s stopping you from doing what makes logical sense.
When you clean out these negative identities – you’re free to be who you really are.
You’re free to develop and step into any appropriate and positive identity for your circumstances.
You’re back in charge of who you’re being.
And this puts you back in the driving seat of your life.
When you’re ready to feel empowered by the question – who do you want to be? Take your first step and book your Foundation Sessions.
Since our sessions I’ve noticed that things aren’t getting me down as much and indeed a current situation with my Mum being unwell isn’t having nearly as negative an impact on me as it would have done before. I feel happier in myself.
Also, aside from my poor Mum, who amazingly is making a recovery, lots of great things are happening and I feel real excitement about what’s to come (even though I have no idea what it is!).
As someone deeply familiar with the nature of thought, I’ve found this to be surprisingly very effective at dealing with the thoughts that still really looked true.
If you’re open to exploring new ways to clear mental clutter, I’d highly recommend it.
It really does work!“
