After their Foundation Sessions clients sometimes report that they feel “weird – but good-weird” – and this is why.
You know how a fish doesn’t know it’s in water – because it’s never known anything else? Its entire reality is defined by something it can’t even perceive.
That’s exactly what happens with negative identities.
When you’ve lived with a negative identity for decades you can’t imagine anything else. You think it’s just who you are, just how things are going to be.
That trigger is your normal. And that trigger response feels justified (of course I’m right and they’re wrong) or inevitable (of course I’d feel awful like this in this circumstance) or both.
Sometimes you even think it’s your success strategy – that it somehow keeps you safe / in control / powerful / in connection / right.
But none of that is true.
Because none of that is who you really are.
How do I know?
Because I’ve stepped outside the water. I feel the fresh air. I’ve breathed in the scents of the truth. I’ve embodied the knowing of the good-feeling of our nature. And I can tell a mile off when something’s going on that’s not the real me.
The water now feels alien. Foreign. Like poison.
Why would I want to feel like that?!
When I’ve tasted freedom, why would I choose to go back to suffocation? Why would I willingly return to the heaviness, the distortion, the limitation of living underwater?
That’s what happens when you’ve experienced both realities – the contrast becomes stark and undeniable.
No blame here if you’re feeling in the water. As I said before, when you’ve been in the water for so long you can’t even imagine what out-of-the-water feels like. You don’t even know it’s a possibility. That’s why clients say ‘I didn’t even know I was carrying that!’
And in not knowing that – you live with the repetitive reactivity and assume that this feeling of triggered and out of control in those moments is just how it’s got to be.
Indeed that’s the very nature of these negative identities you unknowingly created – they’ve been your experience for so long you think they’re just who you are. But they’re not. And they are the epitome of you not being in control – because they take over and there is nothing you can do about it in that moment.
They’re unconscious. They drive your thoughts, feelings and behaviours on an uncontrollable autopilot.
That’s why you say to yourself afterwards – why do I keep doing that?! Why can’t I do something different?!
Or indeed when you say – why do they keep doing that?! Why can’t they do something different?!
But it’s all being viewed through the same distorted lens of the water.
And I have the solution to get you out of the water.
To get these negative identities and reactions out of your universe.
It happens instantaneously. One moment you’re submerged in that familiar heaviness, and the next – you’re breathing clean air. There’s no learning curve to the transformation itself. The shift is immediate and complete. What takes adjustment is how you navigate life from this new perspective.
You might find yourself surprised by your own responses, momentarily disbelieving that this clarity is actually yours to keep. The learning isn’t in how to breathe – you’re already doing that perfectly – it’s in trusting this new reality as you move through the world.
So you too can step out of the water and remember the good-feeling truth of who you really are.
And yes, in the beginning it might feel weird – but good-weird!
Then with time, you’ll come to love the feeling of being out of the water so much that you won’t tolerate the feeling of going back in.
So come join me out here. The air’s beautiful! Take a moment right now to imagine what your life would feel like without that heaviness weighing you down. Without those automatic reactions hijacking your days. That lightness you’re sensing? That clarity? That’s who you really are. And it’s waiting for you just beyond the surface.
