No matter the level of external turbulence, great leaders hold the pressure and continue to lead. Not through gritted teeth and forced effort. Through grounded presence.
Amidst global turbulence,
the best thing you can do for the world
is to be internally stable.
Why?
Have you ever seen the negative consequences of feeling internally turbulent when you’re trying to deal with…
- A toddler who’s having a tantrum
- A team who’s rocked by a business change
- A stakeholder who doesn’t trust the trajectory
The same is true of the current global context.
Internal turbulence begets more outer turbulence.
Internal turbulence ripples more turbulence across the family / team / business / world.
So what instead?
Outer turbulence is best handled from internal stability.
…IF you want to handle things in the most effective, empowered way.
Not everyone is able to genuinely feel their internal stability. It’s covered by too much turbulence.
Certainly not everyone is able to genuinely stand in that internal stability – consistently. Irrespective of the outer circumstances.
Those who do, and can, are leaders (whatever their job title) in creating a world where we ripple stability into relationships, instead of reactivity.
If you’re feeling internally turbulent right now, the easiest thing is to say…
‘Of course I am – have you seen what’s happening!?!!’
The leaders creating a better future say…
‘Let me deal with this turbulence in me.’
The world needs more of the latter.
I’m here for the latter.
It starts with a conversation.
